Obituary for Yolanda Mancinelli

Yolanda Anita (DeFelice) Mancinelli, 86, went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2019. Yolanda was born in Beacon, New York to Dominick DeFelice and Louise Grippo on August 22, 1932. Graduating from Orange County Community College in New York with a Nursing Degree, she was employed as a Registered Nurse for 22 years, working in hospitals in New York and Arizona. She married the love of her life, Joseph Mancinelli on April 21, 1957. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1978, as she much preferred the sunshine rays of Arizona to the gloomy, gray days of New York.

Yolanda was an avid reader and learned how to play the violin at the age of eight. She recounted a memory from her childhood when her mother was called into the principal’s office. She remembered her mother giving her a stern look only to learn that the principal wanted her to play “You Are My Sunshine,” for her mom on the violin. Her mother was pleased which made Yolanda happy. She would lose her mother shortly thereafter to complications with diabetes.

Enjoying many genres of music, Yolanda especially liked the sounds of the Bee Gees, Andy Gibb and Elvis Presley, to name a few favorites. She enjoyed going to live theater productions, concerts, traveling and was known for her marathon shopping, which was mostly “window shopping,” at the mall that could last up to five hours. Few could keep up with her pace, although family members tried! She enjoyed exploring new restaurants and sharing dishes with family and friends. A great cook, Yolanda was famous for her signature Thanksgiving Day stuffing—always a hit with family and guests. She also enjoyed attending church dances and participating in the Silver Sneakers Program. Yolanda was a parishioner at Ss. Simon & Jude Cathedral for many years. Her greatest passion in life was spending time with her family and friends.

Yolanda displayed countless selfless acts of love. All who met her felt comfortable sharing their struggles and heartaches with her, and sought her practical advice. She respected the individuality of each person. She had a way of “cutting to the quick.” As an amazing listener, Yolanda always made time for people, especially her beloved grandchildren, Siena and Seth. Their health and happiness were of utmost importance to her. She put her love into action when Siena was only two years old by selling her family home of over 20 years, and moving across town to take care of her grandchildren while her daughter, Diana, worked. Her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds!

During intense suffering, Yolanda demonstrated amazing bravery. In one of her many walks down the hospital hallways, often with her daughter, Cynthia, to keep up her strength, despite pain and nausea, she whispered “God, you gave me a mountain this time,” and then she pressed on to do His will, something she was committed to doing on a daily basis.

Yolanda will be dearly missed by her family and friends, and anyone who was blessed to spend time in her presence. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dominick and Louise DeFelice, sister Elaine DeFelice and brothers Eugene and Benjamin DeFelice. To carry on her legacy, she leaves behind her loving husband of 61 years, Joseph Frederick Mancinelli, daughters; Cynthia Mancinelli and Diana Storino, grandchildren; Siena and Seth Storino and many extended family members and friends.

Easter Sunday April, 21, 2019 marks the 62nd anniversary of Yolanda and Joseph Mancinelli’s marriage—a marriage that passed the test of time and brought to life the pledge of their promises: “For richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11A.M. Monday, March 11, 2019 at Ss. Simon & Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Ave, Phoenix, followed by a Committal Service at 1P.M. at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix.
